Application Modernisation
Transport Management System (TMS)
From latency to lightning — a TMS reborn for 3PL speed
Industry: Third-Party Logistics (3PL)
Stack: Blazor, .NET 6.0, DevExpress, SQL Server
Outcome: 80% improvement in application response speed; enhanced UX across three portals
The Stakes in 3PL
In third-party logistics, time isn't just money — it's contract compliance, customer retention, and competitive differentiation. Every second of latency in a booking confirmation ripples into carrier delays, driver wait times, and unhappy shippers. The global 3PL market was valued at over $1.2 trillion in 2023 and is growing at 6.5% CAGR. In this environment, technology that slows you down is not a neutral force — it is a liability.
What Was Broken
Our client managed three interconnected portals critical to their day-to-day operations:
Brokers check carrier rates, book trucks, and manage client loads — speed and accuracy are non-negotiable.
Customers track shipments in real time via check calls, pickup/drop info, driver location, and integrated Google Maps.
Carriers sign digital agreements and input EDD equipment information — the contractual foundation of every load.
The problem: poor API design and unoptimised SQL queries were making all three portals sluggish, unreliable, and increasingly frustrating for users. Brokers couldn't get rate confirmations fast enough. Customers were losing visibility. The business was haemorrhaging goodwill.
The Shvintech Approach
We conducted a full technical audit before writing a single line of code. What we found was a classic accumulation of technical debt — well-intentioned code written under deadline pressure that had never been refactored.
Our intervention was surgical and systematic:
Refactored all Web APIs in .NET to align with RESTful best practices and reduce unnecessary round trips
Rewrote and optimised SQL queries — eliminating N+1 problems, redundant joins, and missing indexes
Refactored the front-end Blazor codebase for component reuse, faster rendering, and improved state management
Implemented DevExpress UI components for richer, faster, more intuitive user interactions
Achieved full backward compatibility — zero disruption to live operations during the upgrade
The Outcome
The modernised TMS now provides full visibility into day-to-day transportation operations, trade compliance documentation, and on-time delivery performance. What was once a source of operational friction is now a competitive differentiator.
“Our brokers noticed the difference on day one. The platform finally moves as fast as our business does.”
